Assistant Nurse Manager - Pediatric IV Infusion

Registered Nurses in the Pediatric Cancer Center (Infusion Room and Hematology/Oncology Clinic) at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to pediatric and adult patients with a variety of ambulatory needs, including but not limited to: Hematology, Oncology, Endocrine, Rheumatology, Immunology, Gastrointestinal, Genetic, Renal, and Pulmonary disorders. This role involves supervising the nursing unit, ensuring comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care.

About the Role

The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the nursing unit, requiring strong clinical knowledge, organizational abilities, and interpersonal skills. Key responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit nursing activities, as well as directing and supporting the nursing team. The role demands autonomous nursing practice, independent judgment, and adherence to professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care, including assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, and evaluation of nursing plans.
• Deliver direct patient care, ensuring patient satisfaction and adherence to policies and regulations.
• Train and delegate duties to nursing staff while promoting compliance with policies.
• Perform duties such as drawing labs, central line care, administering infusions (including chemotherapy and blood products), patient/family education, and managing infusion reactions.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and coordinate care for safe and efficient patient flow.
• Exercise autonomous nursing practice consistent with American Nurses' Association Standards.
• Engage in leadership and management (25%), professional development (5%), quality improvement (5%), and nursing research (5%).

Requirements

• Valid California Registered Nurse License.
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR certification.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a Bachelor’s degree (non-nursing) paired with a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN).
• Three (3) years of recent Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing experience.
• APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Certification (for full consideration).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, and utilize medical terminology appropriately.
• Knowledge of current nursing trends, legal implications in clinical practice, and performance improvement.
• Basic computer skills and ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Commitment to excellence in patient care, accountability, professionalism, and adaptability to change.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON), ANCC Pediatrics, CPN (Certified Pediatric Nurse), or Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI).
• One (1) year of recent nursing leadership experience.
• Pediatric Oncology procedural knowledge, telephone triage, case management, and basic insurance/authorization knowledge.

Department Overview

The Pediatric Infusion Room at the UC Davis Health Comprehensive Cancer Center specializes in outpatient infusion care for children, adolescents, and young adults with conditions spanning oncology, hematology, immunology, gastroenterology, neurology, endocrine, and genetics. The department features fourteen infusion spaces and is staffed by a pediatric-focused interdisciplinary team. Services include precise treatment planning, age-appropriate emotional support (e.g., Child-Life Specialists), and a tailored approach to primary nursing care.

Pay

Salary range: $10,466.67–$22,333.33 per month.

Schedule

• 100% on-site, full-time (100% FTE) position.
• Variable day shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Overtime and floating to other areas may be required.

Physical Demands
