Assistant Nurse Director, Surgical Services (Short Stay Unit, PACU, Outpatient Surgery Pre-Post Op & Perioperative Clinic

Under the leadership of the department director, the Assistant Director collaborates with the Director of Surgical Services in planning, goal setting, developing department budgets, and coordinating supplies/equipment, staffing, and patient care to carry out the department’s responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner in conjunction with and support of Community Hospital’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the department’s daily operations, including being a resource and role model to staff for problem resolution with issues related to patient care, service delivery, safety, supplies, equipment, computer software, and customer concerns.
• Ensure staff have appropriate orientation/training and competence for the care and services provided, and that all staff adhere to Montage Health Values and standards for professional conduct through supportive training, coaching, developing, evaluating staff performance, policy/procedure enforcement, and corrective action, if necessary.
• Support quality performance initiatives by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collecting and analyzing quality and performance improvement data, assisting with development of future performance improvement targets and quality initiatives, and developing or revising department policies and procedures as needed.
• Support financial viability with attention to expenses, revenue, utilization, and productivity in assigned cost centers, and tactical execution of Lean concepts.
• Work closely with other departments (internal and external) managers on day-to-day tasks to improve system efficiencies and effectiveness as a member of the Nursing Leadership Team.

Direct reports include Charge Nurses, staff nurses, and ancillary and support staff.

Requirements

• Qualified by education and experience in the care of the perioperative patient.
• At least five years of current experience as a perioperative RN in PACU and/or the pre-operative area in an acute care hospital.
• Demonstrated competence in the formulation of individual perioperative treatment plans and in providing skilled pre- and post-operative care.
• Demonstrated ability to direct, monitor, and evaluate nursing care provided by nursing staff.
• Previous Charge RN or related management experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; BSN/MSN preferred.
• Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill and must complete and pass all annual competencies.
• State of CA RN license required.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.
• ACLS certification must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment.
• CPAN or CAPA certification is preferred upon hire and required within 18 months of start date.
