Exempt, regular full-time position reporting to the Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach. Not eligible for relocation assistance or visa sponsorship.
About the role
Assist in the organization, development, and leadership of a highly competitive NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey program. The program is a member of the ECAC Hockey League. Union College sponsors 27 intercollegiate sports, 25 in Division III, with Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey competing at Division I.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate effective teaching methods and provide excellent leadership in coaching.
- Collaborate with the athletics trainer to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants.
- Assist in recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes who align with the mission of Union College.
- Collaborate with the head coach and admissions department to arrange on-campus visits for prospective student-athletes and their families.
- Ensure compliance with all recruitment policies and procedures.
- Assist in administrative aspects of the program as designated by the head coach, adhering to NCAA, league, and department compliance.
- Help organize recruiting, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Support the academic success of student-athletes by collaborating with college stakeholders.
- Mentor student-athletes.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred, or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
- At least three years of successful ice hockey coaching experience.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Thorough understanding of NCAA rules, policies, and procedures.
- Coaching philosophy compatible with a multi-classified liberal arts college with highly selective academic standards.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including attention to detail.
- Proficiency with recruiting and game analysis software, preferably XOS software.
- Ability to exercise exceptional judgment, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism.
- Ability to support, contribute to, and strengthen a vibrant, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community.
- Must possess or obtain a valid New York State driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Collegiate or professional coaching experience.
- Master’s degree.
Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $93,000–$95,000.
