Assistant Managing Director, Education and Human Development

About the Role
The Texas A&M University Career Center provides centralized career and professional development services for undergraduate, graduate, and former students. We offer individualized career advising, self-assessment resources, and support for students pursuing graduate/professional school or employment. Recognized nationally and regionally for best practices, the Career Center operates from a main office in the Koldus Building and multiple satellite locations across campus.
The Assistant Managing Director, Education and Human Development will focus on career advising, planning, and programming for students primarily from the College of Education & Human Development. This role involves engaging students in career planning, employer/industry research, job search skills, and professional development opportunities. As part of the Career Center’s Management Team, the position includes supervising staff, coordinating strategic planning, and managing career development processes. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels in collaborative settings.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Lead and manage career services advising and programming for designated colleges/schools, emphasizing early student engagement, major-specific initiatives, and employer outreach.
- Enhance collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, administration, student organizations, and students.
- Represent the department on committees and serve as a liaison to academic units and college/school leadership (e.g., deans, department heads).
- Coordinate strategic direction with the management team and provide recommendations to Career Center leadership.
- Stay informed about current events in higher education and career services.
- Maintain knowledge of labor market trends, occupational information, and employer bases at local, state, and national levels.
- Supervision and Team Development:
- Supervise and evaluate professional staff in specific functional areas.
- Facilitate professional development opportunities and foster a high-performing, collaborative team environment.
- Provide guidance and support for staff delivering career advising and programming.
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate records following office procedures.
- Employer Engagement:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers to expand student employment opportunities and high-impact experiences.
- Oversee employer engagement in career events and programming.
- Collaborate with the employer services program to execute duties.
- Student Advising and Program Oversight:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate career-related programs and services, including large-scale events.
- Advise students on career/major exploration, career planning, and job search skills (e.g., resume writing, networking, interviewing).
- Oversee innovative technologies for career services delivery, including online platforms and virtual instruction.
- Ensure career-related content and resources are current, engaging, and accessible.
- Support of Career Center Initiatives:
- Participate in programs and services such as workshops, drop-in advising, committee work, and team meetings.
- Plan strategies for Career Center-wide events (e.g., resume reviews, career fairs, marketing initiatives).
- Participate in cross-functional teams and develop Center-wide projects for specific needs.
- Handle special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by department leadership.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with University, departmental, and governmental policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain reports, analyses, and surveys on student engagement, employer partnerships, and program effectiveness.
- Prepare semester and annual reports for faculty, administration, and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with administrative staff to prepare purchase orders, vouchers, and financial documentation.
Requirements
- Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six years of experience in career services, advising, recruiting, or a related specialty.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in student affairs or a related specialty.
Skills
- Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, written, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet programs, and data presentation.
- Experience with complex databases and software programs.
- Proficiency in researching and utilizing online resources.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple programs/services.

Pay
Starting salary: $78,000 annually.
Schedule
