About the Role
The Assistant Director of Education, under the direction of the Director of Education, is responsible for supervising and assisting the teaching team with developing, maintaining, and supervising all Allen County Learning Academy operations. This position is covered under the Superior Court Handbook and is an employee at will.
Responsibilities
- Use information obtained from public agencies to gather student academic history, including past/current grades, schedules, and credits, to place students in appropriate classes or HSE programs.
- Maintain accurate student records and share information with public agencies, parents/guardians, and probation officers as needed.
- Supervise students before and after school, during restroom breaks, passing periods, and lunch periods.
- Supervise teachers and provide classroom coverage or instruction as needed.
- Manage inventory and supplies required by classroom teachers.
- Schedule and participate in Special Education conferences, providing educational information and distributing education plans to teachers.
- Assist the Director of Education with compiling the master school schedule and assigning staff teaching duties.
- Perform the duties of the Director of Education in their absence.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education with at least 3 years of teaching experience.
- Master’s Degree in Education Leadership preferred.
- Valid Indiana State certification as a Licensed Secondary Teacher.
- Knowledge of Indiana diploma requirements.
- Ability to track accurate information regarding student academic performance, behavior, and attendance.
- Detailed knowledge of Allen County Learning Academy policies and procedures.
- Understanding of teacher responsibilities, licensing, and required teaching materials.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.
- Supervisory skills for managing at-risk juveniles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software.
Qualifications
- Valid Indiana State Building Level Administrator’s License preferred.
- Indiana State Certification as a Probation Officer within six months of hire.
- Current certifications required: CPR/AED/First Aid and Primary Restraint Technique (PRT).
Working Conditions
- Requires some lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, kneeling, and crawling.
- Exposure to noise and frequent mental/visual effort, including typing, transcription, proofreading, and equipment monitoring.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Frequent interactions with hostile or aggressive youth and their families, including the ability to physically restrain juveniles if necessary.
Supervision
- Supervises teachers.
- Reports to the Director of Education.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and as needed.
