Assistant Managing Attorney

About the role
This position is based in our San Francisco office. The Assistant Managing Attorney (AMA) works closely with the Managing Attorney to develop best practices for electronic filing and calendaring in California and all offices of the firm.
Responsibilities
- Review for accuracy, as to form and procedural compliance, all court documents served and/or filed, especially for California offices of the firm.
- Perform legal research to advise litigators on various procedural matters and to ensure compliance with court rules.
- Provide procedural guidance and advice with respect to motion practice, policy and procedure in California State and Federal Courts.
- Assist with issues relating to service of process including engaging process servers.
- Assist with review of new cases and rule changes to ensure that lawyers are kept apprised of recent developments under California state rules, FRCP and FRAP.
- Assist with and handle electronic case filings via CM/ECF and California state court systems, in addition to hard copy filings and document retrieval.
- Search and extract information from court-related databases, websites and relevant docketing and calendaring applications including, but not limited to, PACER, Bloomberg Law, CourtAlert and Westlaw.
- Screen and review incoming court documents and office correspondence in order to calculate and calendar relevant deadlines using the firm’s docketing system.
- Supervise other members of the Managing Attorney’s Office.
- Assist with quality control of docket and calendar entries.
- Ensure that lawyers are timely notified of filing deadlines and court appearances.
- Assist with department projects as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and J.D. required.
- Admission to California state bar preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a Managing Attorney/Clerk’s Office at a large law firm.
- Experience supervising other members of a Managing Attorney’s Office at a large law firm preferred.
- Familiarity with California federal and state court systems and the corresponding federal, state and court rules.
- Able to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of personnel, including attorneys, co-workers, and administrators.

Pay
The salary range in CA/NYC for this role is $200,000 - $250,000 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.
