Assistant Manager, Distribution Center
Position Summary
The Assistant Manager supports the Distribution Center Manager in overseeing day-to-day warehouse operations across inbound, outbound, and inventory functions. This role is responsible for executing operational strategies, leading Warehouse Supervisors, and ensuring high performance in safety, service, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership
Oversee daily DC operations including receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and inventory control
Ensure execution of standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all functional areas
Partner with the DC Manager to manage labor planning and staffing levels based on volume
Monitor workflows and remove operational bottlenecksPeople Leadership
Directly manage Warehouse Supervisors and hold them accountable to performance expectations
Support hiring, onboarding, and development of supervisors and hourly staff
Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and teamworkPerformance & Metrics
Drive key KPIs: Order accuracy, On-time shipping & receiving, Inventory accuracy, Labor productivity
Analyze performance data and implement corrective action plans
Support DC Manager in meeting financial and operational targetsSafety & Compliance
Enforce OSHA and company safety standards at all times
Lead safety initiatives and ensure a clean, organized work environment
Ensure proper operation and maintenance of MHE equipmentProcess Improvement
Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Standardize processes across shifts and departments
Partner with cross-functional teams (transportation, customer service, corporate) to resolve issuesCommunication & Coordination
Lead daily stand-up meetings with Warehouse Supervisors
Communicate priorities, changes, and performance expectations clearly
Escalate operational risks or issues proactively to DC leadership
Experience
- 5+ years of warehouse/distribution experience
- 2–3+ years of leadership experience managing supervisors or leads
- Experience in high-volume or large-scale distribution centers preferred
- Forklift experience and ability for certification

- Exposure to varying temperatures and equipment operation
