About the Role
The Assistant Manager reports to the Store Manager and is responsible for creating an exceptional customer service and employee experience by ensuring store locations operate in a clean, safe, welcoming, and compliant manner. Essential duties are accurate summaries of the job classification and what is required to perform it.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a primary emphasis on fast, friendly, and accurate service.
- Complete all employee scheduling accurately and on time.
- Carry out performance appraisals for department heads if required by the Store Manager.
- Coach, counsel, and mentor employees and managers.
- Ensure departments are culled effectively, and no substandard merchandise is on display.
- Ensure all established company policies and procedures are followed.
- Ensure all staff wear the correct Hi Nabor approved uniform.
- Ensure long-life and perishable departments are merchandised correctly with seasonally appropriate sets.
- Carry out disciplinary action protocol for breaches of policy and poor performance.
- Uphold the company’s high-quality standards.
- Manage and resolve personnel and customer issues, including complaints and conflicts.
- Perform supervisory duties, including hiring, scheduling, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining employees.
- Review Department Managers’ scheduling and mentor to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness, making changes as required.
- Ensure stores are staffed appropriately in each department, with hiring occurring as needed.
- Conduct thorough daily store walks to check the trading area, warehouse, coolers/freezers, building exterior, and parking lot for compliance with company standards.
- Keep warehouse, cooler, and freezer inventory to the absolute minimum required stock, except for investment buy activity.
- Ensure all products are priced clearly, correctly, and competitively; report noncompetitive situations to the Store Manager.
- Complete and submit wage rate increase request forms to the Store Manager for approval.
- Ensure store inventory matches sales requirements and new business needs.
- Ensure stores conduct inventory rotation programs and effective clearance action to maximize profitability and prevent out-of-date products.
- Ensure all financial budgets and constraints are met.
- Maintain situational awareness and monitor gross margins on products.
- Understand and track all financial performance figures, including Sales, Gross Profits, Labor costs, supply costs, shrink figures, and retail KPIs.
- Ensure country of origin labeling protocol is followed.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations, state and federal, including temperature protocols for food holding, cooler/freezer temperatures, general cleaning practices, and sanitation protocols.
- Keep warehouses, coolers, and freezers clean and organized; ensure products are date-coded, rotated, and not stored directly on the floor.
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ensure the store is free of safety hazards and safe work practices are in place to prevent injury to associates or customers.
- Inform the Store Manager daily on store conditions and any relevant updates.

- Excellent communication skills (email, phone, text, and in-person) with both coworkers and customers.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including day, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Strong computer skills and software management.
- Knowledge of and experience complying with safety principles, practices, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience in a management role within the retail industry, including supervisory experience.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- May be required to kneel, stoop, reach, push, and pull medium to heavy items.
- Required to sit for extended periods while performing office/clerical work using general office equipment/computers.
