Assistant Landscape Construction Superintendent

About the Role

Plans, directs, and coordinates activities pertaining to landscape construction, renovation, and maintenance of an assigned contract in accordance with company policies, contract documents, and governmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Coach, evaluate, and train staff and field workers in the performance of landscape services.
• Conduct field training of landscape and irrigation construction personnel.
• Supervise multiple landscape and irrigation installation projects of all sizes.
• Inspect all field work; analyze and resolve problems.
• Ensure all construction services are delivered according to contract specifications, within budget, and on schedule.
• Evaluate project site conditions, including surveying, topographies, and soil conditions, and report to the project manager prior to commencement of work.
• Track all job expenses with the project/branch manager, ensuring proper entry of time, materials, and subcontractors.
• Meet and exceed the expectations and requirements of external and internal customers.
• Manage labor force to ensure labor budgets are on track.
• Maintain accurate daily and weekly Foremen and Superintendent activity logs; update production tracking reports and generate related reports as needed.
• Dispatch labor and equipment to job sites.
• Manage equipment utilization, storage, and maintenance on projects.
• Evaluate employee safety data and promote safe work practices; ensure employees attend weekly safety meetings.
• Recommend staff changes, promotions, wage adjustments, and staffing limits (hiring/firing) to Branch/Project Manager.
• Attend and assist with internal scheduling, pre-construction, and production meetings.
• Attend pre-construction meetings with General Contractors and architects onsite before the start of the job.
• Communicate with contract administrator and project/branch manager regarding permits, utility locates, and inspections.
• Confirm plants are suitable for application as per drawings and specifications.
• Evaluate projects and organize RFIs if questions exist requiring architect approval.
• Review all plans, specifications, and estimates; address any material or budget issues at pre-construction meetings.
• Organize material orders and delivery to job sites; ensure materials are loaded in the morning.
• Familiarize self with plans, details, and specifications prior to job start; pre-order materials as needed.
• Obtain purchase orders prior to purchasing; provide accurate estimated values when obtaining POs.
• Ensure all subcontractors and purchase orders are maintained, managed, and aligned with each project.
• Collect daily receipts/bills of lading for materials delivered to projects; properly identify each with job name, number, and PO.
• Manage sourcing and procurement of project materials; order long-lead items as required.
• Schedule crews for days and weeks ahead efficiently.
• Ensure all projects, current or within warranty, are maintained and watered properly.
• Seek opportunities daily to beat budgets while maintaining quality.
• Approve, code, and submit material invoices in a timely manner.
• Ensure best use of tools and equipment to complete projects; minimize rentals and call off immediately after use.
• Act as quality control for all job site installations; attend all punch walks for the project.
• Conduct in-house walkthroughs upon job completion; assemble and complete punch-list items for substantial completion.
• Communicate alterations or project changes effectively to crews and subcontractors.
• Submit all change order information to the Branch Manager for executive submittal.
• Verify crew time entries daily; manage and approve timesheets and vacation requests.
• Manage equipment/truck database; ensure routine maintenance is logged and repairs are completed timely.
• Manage all crews' GPS and driver safety scorecards; provide recommendations for driver warnings and write-ups.
• Organize weekly safety toolbox talks with crews; ensure proper PPE and safety information is presented.
• Follow all safety protocols for reporting accidents; ensure safety policies are followed.
• Ensure all crews return to the office and all trucks and gates are secured.
• Ensure all punch lists are 100% complete and the project is closed out.

Requirements

• 5+ years of crew leader/foreman experience in commercial landscape construction.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Bilingual preferred.
