General Description

Boston Public School is seeking an Assistant Principal/Headmaster to serve as an educational leader in their schools. The position requires a highly motivated individual with a commitment to high standards of performance and achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Affirms the Code of Discipline and maintains the safety and security of the building and grounds.
  • Supervises the arrival and departure of students; oversees student behavior in common areas.
  • Seeks funding to enhance cultural and academic programs.
  • Uses data to guide academic goals and assists in preparing the Whole School Improvement document.
  • Aids the Principal/Headmaster in managing various administrative tasks including:
    • Supervising maintenance of the building and grounds
    • Cooking and delivery of supplies and equipment
    • Supervising personnel and student records
    • Preparing reports and statistics of school operations
    • Preparing and maintaining the master schedule
    • Implementing the attendance policy
    • Serving as a liaison between the school and transportation providers
  • Supervises substitute teachers, ensuring availability and performance evaluation.
  • Assists in planning activities, including curriculum, instruction, student support services, and coordination with volunteers and parents.
  • Engages the wider community to support school goals.
  • Writes evaluations for all assigned teachers and support staff.
  • Assumes other related duties as requested by the Principal/Headmaster.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Education or related field
  • Three (3) years successful teaching experience
  • Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific)
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents
  • Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image
  • Experience with budget preparation and implementation
  • Advanced technology skills
  • Experience with full process involved in development and implementation of master schedule

Qualifications Preferred

  • Teaching experience in a 7-12 educational setting in a core content area
  • Experience as a school administrator
  • International Baccalaureate programs experience preferred
  • Experience designing and implementing professional development around race and equity and serving as a resource for students and staff around these issues
  • Prior work with progressive discipline, restorative justice, and implementation of the BPS Code of Conduct
  • Experience in large, fast-paced school environments with significant extra-curricular commitments, extremely high levels of email communication, and parent engagement with a diverse, multilingual population
  • Knowledge of practices and policies supporting English Language Learners and experience working to ensure compliance as well as positive school experiences for students with varying ELD levels
  • Comfort with disaggregating large data sets and presenting them for analysis to faculty and staff
