Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education preferred or minimum of 36 college hours or online 20-hour substitute training.
- Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management.
- Knowledgeable of coaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.
- Knowledgeable of and adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Abide by all rules and regulations established by the Poplar Bluff R-I Board of Education.
- Abide by and uphold all rules and regulations established by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
- Actively pursue the licensure to drive a school bus suitable for the sport they are coaching.
Performance Responsibilities
- Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
- Aid in making plans and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
- Work with the Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
- Aid in making recommendations to purchase equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.
- Aid in maintaining an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all uniforms and equipment as appropriate.
- Aid with necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
- Absorb and enforce discipline and sportsman-like behavior at all times.
- Absorb and enforce penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
- Have a good working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport he or she is coaching.
- Reflect a favorable impression of our school system to other schools and communities as a representative of the Poplar Bluff R-I School District.

- Have the desire to create a positive influence on players, fans, colleagues, and others to win.
- Possess strong values and work ethic.
- Motivate those directly and indirectly associated with the program to have a supportive sense of ownership of the program.
- Promote the athletic program by strategically involving others, including parents and media.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with persons involved in the school's operation.
- Have the understanding and control required to respond to a total setting even during the most highly pitched emotional situation.
- Be organized and prepared.
- Be a continuous student of the game, constantly searching for better methods, techniques, and strategies.
- Be dedicated and committed to the coaching profession.
- Take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse.
- Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and be responsible for interpreting rules to team members.
- Actively use their influence to enhance good sportsmanship among their spectators and instruct players in their sportsmanship responsibilities.
- Show respect and support for contest officials.
- Keep the Athletic Director informed of major problems and decisions.
- Be a proactive host to opponents, treating them as guests.
- Inform players of the conduct expected of them in the locker room, other school facilities, on the floor or field, and the bus.
- Instruct athletes as to the potential dangers of participating in that sport.
- Properly condition players who are members of their squad.
- Turn off lights, lock doors, and ensure the building and equipment are secure.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Factors
- Ability to work in a climate-controlled building, as well as in inclement weather.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time.
- Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids, a computer screen and printed matter, and to distinguish colors.
- Sufficient hearing to understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and addressing groups.
- Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, pull, grasp, and carry a variety of objects of different shapes and sizes.
- Able to perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
