About the role

The incumbent will represent the agency, its Board, and agency personnel in legal proceedings and will be responsible for a wide array of legal issues to include employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, EMTALA, mental health law, department investigations, legislation, policies, ethics, and litigation in all state and federal courts along with other tribunals.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the agency, its Board, and agency personnel in legal proceedings
  • Handle a wide range of legal issues including employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, EMTALA, mental health law, department investigations, legislation, policies, ethics, and litigation in all state and federal courts along with other tribunals

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • A license to practice law in State of Oklahoma
  • An active membership with the Oklahoma Bar Association
  • Seven years of legal experience including two years of litigation, or agency-defined experience in the practice of law e.g. tax, or supervisory experience

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications and experience as outlined in the job description

  • Legal knowledge and experience
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) is the state’s mental health and substance use treatment services system. The department's core mission is to provide prevention and treatment services for Oklahomans who are indigent and without a means to pay.
