About the Role
Works collaboratively with other members of the legal and compliance teams to protect West Bank's legal interests and maintain its operations within the scope of applicable laws and regulations. Provides hands-on counsel to staff and management. Responsible for identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting and reviewing key documents, presenting clear recommendations, and assuring legal compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provides Legal Advice, Counsel and Support
- Handles general legal matters on behalf of the bank, providing counsel and support to West Bank team members in all departments, including but not limited to:
- Real estate transactions
- Contract negotiation and review
- Bankruptcy
- Collections
- Compliance matters impacting deposit, lending, and other banking activities
- Consumer disputes
- Litigation management
- Loan documentation review
- Loan workouts
- Treasury Management support
- Trust Department support
- New product development
- Handles general legal matters on behalf of the bank, providing counsel and support to West Bank team members in all departments, including but not limited to:
- Legal Department Activities
- Mentors law clerks and interns
- Manages legal department staff responsible for charge off loan/checking collection efforts, garnishment, levies, and subpoenas
- Serves as legal department representative on various internal committees
- Build Strong Communities
- Maintains a presence in the community as an active ambassador for West Bank
- Participates in community events, including spending at least 8 hours annually engaging in activities such as:
- Serving in a leadership position for a nonprofit or community organization
- Staffing an event
- Representing West Bank at a luncheon or reception as requested
- Participating in a community festival or bank-sponsored outreach event
Qualifications
- Iowa attorney in good standing; admission to federal bar a plus
- At least one year of legal experience preferred; prior bank experience a plus
- Excellent analytical skills
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills that demonstrate the capability of providing pragmatic solutions to colleagues at all levels of the organization and with a variety of audiences and relationships
