About the role

The Assistant General Counsel will be dedicated to the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA), ensuring effective implementation of statutes and rules. The lawyer will assume all functions of planning, organizing, and monitoring legal activities, interpreting laws and regulations, providing legal advice, counsel, and assistance to OMMA.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary contact for OMMA staff, addressing complex legal inquiries and providing advice.
  • Plays a key role in evaluating and drafting agency rules and proposed legislation.
  • Assists in OMMA compliance functions, including providing support for investigations and providing representation in administrative proceedings.
  • Analyzes complex factual and legal issues and prepares legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents; conducts legal research, reports findings, and advises on laws and regulations.
  • Presents cases before various courts, including administrative, state, federal, and appellate.
  • Works in a high-pressure environment, handling multiple tasks and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
  • Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers.
  • Participates in the development and evaluation of program objectives and procedures.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to internal staff.

Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • A license to practice law in the State of Oklahoma.
  • An active membership of the Oklahoma Bar Association.
  • Two years of legal experience or adjudicative experience.

Skills

  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws; applicable regulations; constitutional law and the Oklahoma Constitution; agency policies and procedures; trial and hearing procedures; rules of evidence; methods and techniques for conducting legal research and writing.
  • Critical thinking; conducting legal research and written and oral communication; Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; attention to detail; sound judgment and decision making.

Up to $110,000 based on education and experience.
