About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced and business-minded Assistant General Counsel to support the General Counsel, Senior General Counsel, General Partner, and company leadership on a broad range of legal matters. This role will serve as a trusted legal advisor to the organization, providing counsel on commercial transactions, construction contracts, real estate matters, regulatory compliance, litigation, employment-related issues, and risk management initiatives.

The ideal candidate will bring strong transactional experience, sound business judgment, and the ability to work closely with operational teams in a fast-paced construction and building materials environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and revise a wide variety of legal documents, including:
    • Construction materials supply agreements
    • Commercial contracts
    • Purchase and sale agreements
    • Real estate leases
    • Easements and land use agreements
    • Vendor and service contracts
    • Confidentiality agreements and other corporate documents
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and support to company leadership and employees.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance matters and interactions with governmental agencies.
  • Identify legal, regulatory, and business risks and develop practical solutions to mitigate exposure.
  • Support claims management, dispute resolution, litigation strategy, and outside counsel oversight.
  • Advise on labor and employment matters, personnel issues, and company policies as needed.
  • Review and interpret surveys, plat maps, title documents, and other real estate-related materials.
  • Partner with business leaders to evaluate opportunities, contracts, and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain strong legal and business confidentiality standards.
  • Assist with special projects and additional legal and operational responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in either Texas or New Mexico.
  • If licensed in only one state, willingness and ability to obtain licensure in the second state within six months of employment.
  • Minimum five (5) years of legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Construction transactions
    • Real estate transactions
    • Commercial contracts
    • Regulatory compliance
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising on labor and employment matters.
  • Familiarity with the construction, aggregates, building materials, or infrastructure industries.
  • Knowledge of the West Texas and Southern New Mexico construction markets.
  • Construction field experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) capabilities.
