Assistant General Counsel

What We Are Looking For

This Assistant General Counsel position is for an attorney who will be responsible for regulatory matters and business transactions associated with Kinder Morgan’s Natural Gas Group. Successful candidates should have extensive experience with regulatory matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), including certificate, rate and tariff matters, and general business transactions affecting interstate natural gas pipelines.

What You Will Do

• Provide day-to-day legal advice, counsel, and services to the regulatory, commercial, and business development teams working on Kinder Morgan’s extensive interstate natural gas pipeline systems.

What You Need

• Possess at least 7 years of legal experience with a reputable law firm, in-house with an energy company, or a combination between the two.
• Adept at administrative law and understanding how Kinder Morgan’s pervasively regulated businesses are impacted by various federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
• Strong skills in FERC regulatory matters, as well as negotiating, drafting, and implementing long-term transportation and storage agreements, precedent agreements, regulatory pleadings, operating and construction agreements, joint venture agreements, and other commercial agreements.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with attorneys and colleagues working in other Kinder Morgan office locations and business segments.
• A motivated self-starter with the ability to be a team player, flexible, and willing to do what it takes to support effective operation of Kinder Morgan’s extensive natural gas operations.
• Nimble, responsive, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment throughout all levels of the organization.
• Requires 10% to 20% travel.
