Assistant General Counsel

Key Responsibilities

• Handles eviction and small claims litigation
• Represents CMHA in state, federal, and administrative proceedings
• Advises leadership and staff on contracts, development, labor and personnel matters, and liability issues
• Ensures compliance with applicable laws and HUD regulations
• Conducts legal research and prepares legal documents
• Supports real property transactions and coordinates with outside counsel
• Maintains and monitors Agency contracts
• Contributes to lease enforcement and eviction-reduction initiatives
• Develops and delivers legal and compliance training
• Performs other assigned duties

Qualifications

• Holds a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• Licensed to practice law in Ohio
• At least two years of litigation experience
• Strong knowledge of public housing laws and regulations
• Proven litigation and negotiation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• The capacity to analyze complex legal issues and deliver practical solutions
• Strong organizational skills
• Sound judgment and attention to detail
• The ability to perform effectively under pressure
• A collaborative, ethical approach to dispute resolution
