Assistant Fare Collection Technician/Mechanic – OMNY Program Support (NYC Transit)
About the role
WSP is seeking an Assistant Fare Collection Technician/Mechanic to support on-site work in NYC Transit subway stations, focusing on both OMNY technology deployment and legacy fare system support.
Responsibilities
- Oversee, monitor and report on the installation and commissioning of: OMNY contactless fare payment devices (tap readers, validators)
- Fare gates/turnstiles integrated with OMNY technology
- Ticket vending machines (TVMs) and legacy equipment
- Aid in ensuring reliable performance testing of contactless and open-payment systems (credit card, mobile wallet)
- Field Operations: Work on-site within active subway station environments
- Coordinate with NYCT personnel to maintain service continuity and minimize customer disruption
- Assist in granting access to the NYCT station infrastructure: including power and communication rooms
- Maintain installation logs, test reports, and field observation records
- Follow all MTA NYCT safety, operational, and compliance requirements
- Participate in inspections, audits, and performance tracking
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Minimum 3+ years proven experience working in MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) stations
- Hands-on experience with: Fare gates / turnstiles, Ticket vending machines (TVMs)
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Must be local to the New York metropolitan area
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with contactless or OMNY-type fare systems
- Familiarity with: Account-based ticketing (ABT) systems, EMV/contactless payment technology, Networked device troubleshooting
- Experience supporting transit modernization or capital programs
- Technical certifications or relevant training

Pay
$ 59,500.00 - $ 80,000.00
Schedule
On-site work in NYC subway stations, including underground environments. May require: Night, weekend, or off-hour shifts. Work during planned service outages or maintenance windows.
