Assistant Engineer (Structural)

About the role
Manage, evaluate, and assess information necessary to construct the project on time, within budget, and to the quality specified by the contract documents for the assigned areas. This role has supervisory responsibility for Engineering Assistants, Plan Clerks, and Interns and is responsible for building parts of the project “on paper.” Reports to an Engineer, Project Engineer, or Project Manager.
Responsibilities
- Act as liaison with architects, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, inspectors, other Turner job staff, and owner's representatives to resolve issues related to plans and specifications.
- Maintain general knowledge of all general contract and subcontract documents, as well as the job estimate.
- Oversee and make decisions related to contract drawings and subcontract information.
- Ensure that all drawings and specifications properly relate to the estimate.
- Manage the project budget, submittals, and shop drawings.
- Assess conformance to contract specifications and resolve conflicts in interpretation.
- Negotiate change orders and manage information on changes in the work, including preparing independent analyses, obtaining and checking estimates from subcontractors, and securing approval from the architect and owner.
- Oversee the close-out process, including preparing final records such as RFIs, close-out records, warranties, as-builts, operation and maintenance manuals, attic stock, and spare parts.
- Supervise Engineering Assistants, Plan Clerks, and Interns, including providing input on performance appraisals.
- Prepare scope of work documents for trades.
- Develop reports such as General Conditions Items, labor, safety, change order logs, and quality control.
- Schedule and manage subcontractor trade coordination meetings, preconstruction meetings, and submittal review meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Proven written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience utilizing leading-edge technologies such as BIM and LEAN.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands
- Climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, climb ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; sit, talk, and hear (e.g., bells, whistles).
- Stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
- Work on-site at the construction worksite with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
- Noise levels in the work environment are usually moderate to very loud.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $102,000 - $126,000 annualized, representing the company's good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in a Turner office or project location. Not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
