About the role
This position manages and provides engineering leadership for the operations of District 6, including design, hydraulics, project management, consultant agreements, major projects, materials and planning. As a member of the District Management Team, they manage the SE Minnesota Area Transportation Improvement Program and chair the SE Minnesota Area Transportation Partnership. This position has full managerial authority and accountability for human and fiscal resources and other resources needed to deliver these aspects of the program delivery area in a manner that addresses customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage and integrate District’s resources.
- Manage the SE Minnesota Area Transportation Improvement Program and chair the SE Minnesota Area Transportation Partnership.
- Provide leadership, management, and direction to State and District Program Delivery Sections.
- Lead and motivate others who do not report directly in developing and completing projects/programs.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions to complex issues.
- Allocate resources within large, complex budgets.
- Lead and manage agency initiatives.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders and MnDOT staff.
- Interact with management, external stakeholders, and MnDOT staff with excellent oral and written skills.
- Manage and direct the Pre-Construction Management Group (PCMG).
Requirements
- Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID).
- At least five (5) years of professional post-registration engineering experience, with at least three (3) years at the Engineer Principal level or higher.
Qualifications
- Leadership: considerable leadership skills and experience to successfully lead and manage agency initiatives, develop, and implement innovative solutions to complex issues, lead and motivate others who do not report directly in developing and completing projects/programs.
- Fiscal: strong fiscal management experience with large, complex budgets including allocating resources.
- Technical: extensive knowledge of engineering principles in an engineering organization, Minnesota’s construction industry, current transportation industry technology, and MnDOT’s organization, policies, and programs.
- Communications/Human Relations: excellent oral and written skills to successfully interact with and create strong relations with management, external stakeholders, and MnDOT staff and a high level of negotiation and conflict management skills.

$53.66 - $76.98 / hourly; $112,042 - $160,734 / annually
