Assistant Distribution Center Manager

About the role
The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations, ensuring efficient product flow, inventory accuracy, team productivity, and adherence to safety standards. This role supports the Warehouse Manager in executing operations across receiving, put-away, replenishment, order picking, and shipping while maintaining a strong focus on labor efficiency, operational performance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented leader with experience in high-volume warehouse environments who can effectively manage teams, optimize workflows, resolve operational challenges, and drive accountability across the warehouse.
Responsibilities
- Warehouse Operations Management
- Oversee daily warehouse activities, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, order picking, and shipping
- Ensure efficient workflow and proper labor allocation to meet productivity and throughput targets
- Monitor warehouse operations to ensure timely movement of product and minimize bottlenecks
- Support the execution of operational plans to meet service level and performance expectations
- Identify operational challenges and implement solutions to improve efficiency and productivity
- Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, coach, and develop warehouse associates to promote high performance and accountability
- Establish clear expectations and monitor employee performance against operational standards
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, training, and performance management
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Provide guidance and support to employees to address performance or operational concerns
- Inventory Control & Accuracy
- Support inventory management processes, including cycle counts, audits, and discrepancy resolution
- Ensure accurate product handling, storage, and system transactions within the WMS
- Identify and resolve inventory variances, damages, and process gaps
- Partner with warehouse and inventory leadership to improve inventory accuracy and reduce shrink
- Ensure proper product rotation, storage, labeling, and organization throughout the facility
- Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing OSHA standards and company safety protocols
- Conduct regular safety checks and ensure proper use of warehouse equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks
- Investigate incidents and assist with implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and operational guidelines
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the warehouse
- Operational Performance & Analytics
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, and labor efficiency
- Identify opportunities to improve warehouse processes, reduce costs, and increase throughput
- Monitor labor utilization and operational performance to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Support reporting on warehouse performance and operational metrics
- Assist in implementing process improvements, standard operating procedures, and best practices
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with receiving, inventory control, transportation, and other operational teams to ensure smooth product flow
- Communicate operational priorities, challenges, and performance updates to warehouse leadership
- Partner with maintenance and facilities teams to address equipment, facility, and operational issues
- Support coordination between warehouse functions to maintain efficient end-to-end operations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in warehouse operations, distribution, or logistics
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a warehouse environment
- Strong understanding of inventory control, receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, and shipping processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and warehouse management systems (WMS)
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume warehouse environment
