About the role

The Assistant Director of Residential Life is responsible for working with the Housing & Residential Life Department to establish and maintain a community within the residence halls that supports students' academic and personal growth. They also assist in the administration and supervision of single student housing operations, plan and implement student staff training, and advise and educate students and student groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration and supervision of single student housing operations
  • Plan and implement student staff training
  • Audit, advance, and implement the student development program in support of a public research education
  • Advise, support, and educate students and student groups
  • Review and develop Residential Life policies
  • Maintain and oversee student case summaries, monthly dashboard reports, building analytics, and case turnaround analysis
  • Follow up on educational sanctions and other types of student outreach
  • Create, oversee, and assess departmental crisis management policies and emergency procedures
  • Oversee eleven residence halls housing 2,600+ students
  • Actively supervise and evaluate staff at all levels in the residence halls
  • Aid in the recruitment, selection, and training of Residential Living Staff
  • Plan and implement operational and educational policies
  • Coordinate with Facilities Management to ensure all resident issues and needs are resolved in a timely manner
  • Work closely with the housing staff to respond and monitor all protocol issues
  • Periodically travel to all halls and suites within the area of responsibility (up to 1.5 miles)
  • Reside within a 20-minute driving distance to campus
  • Travel to Regional and National conferences to stay updated on the latest techniques and programs in residence hall living

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in College Student Development/Personnel, Higher Education, or related field (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Three years of experience in residence halls, administrative experience, or other student affairs areas

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in College Student Development/Personnel, Higher Education, or related field preferred
  • Experience in student conduct, organizational/student advising, and residence hall program development

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge

  • Computer skills required
