About the role
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing with administrative duties as designated and the supervision of nursing staff.
Responsibilities
- Acts as liaison between nursing units, admissions, and the DON.
- Plans and facilitates meetings and committees to address resident care issues.
- Makes recommendations for training or work modification to the DON based on monitoring and evaluation of nursing staff.
- Monitors and audits charts weekly for compliance with standards, including episodic, Medicare documentation, assessments, MAR's, treatments, flow sheets, and residents' profiles for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
- Ensures annual competency evaluations and performance reviews are completed in a timely manner.
- Proactively addresses survey and/or standards of care issues.
- Follows up on residents, family, and employee concerns in a timely manner.
- Participates in the nurse on-call system.
- Represents the DON at meetings, in the community, and assumes responsibility for nursing operations in the DON's absence.
- Works with the Staffing Coordinator to ensure adequate nursing staff is available to meet facility/census requirements.
- Rounds on units at least once a day to ensure needs are being met.
- Assists the DON in preparing reports, forms, and clinical issues in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
- Valid RN license in the state employed preferred.
- Valid LPN license if not an RN.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Seven years’ experience in nursing, two years of which was supervisory in a long-term care environment.

- Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to organize and prioritize.
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, state and federal regulations, and Company policies and procedures regarding nursing standards and delivery of care.
