About the Role
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for the nursing team and quality of patient care, partnering with the Director of Nursing (DON). The ADON supervises, analyzes, delegates, and evaluates nursing services to maintain quality standards of care and advises medical staff, department heads, and the Administrator in matters related to nursing services.
Responsibilities
- Reviews daily work assignments to ensure they meet regulatory compliance and provide consistent staffing whenever possible.
- Assists DON in daily managing of the nursing staff, scheduling breaks, reassigning employees as facility needs dictate, and enforcing policies with the authority to issue Coaching and Corrective Action with HR/Administrator guidance.
- Participates with the Medical Consultants and the Administrator in the selection of all potential new admissions, assessing needs for new residents, and managing admission, retention, and discharge of residents.
- Ensures physicians make visits as required.
- Ensures necessary equipment, supplies, and staffing are available for the delivery of prescribed resident/patient care.
- Manages the nursing department budget and provides the Administrator with budgetary planning information related to equipment needs and staffing.
- Collaborates with the DON and Administrator in planning staff development programs to enhance staff knowledge in providing quality resident care.
- Works with regional personnel to continuously improve the quality of resident/patient care.
- Develops strategic plans or programs to reduce unnecessary returns to acute care.
- Ensures all elements of the facility’s Abuse & Neglect policies are maintained and enforced.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current CPR Certification required.
- Current LPN license with the state required.
- Prefer previous nursing and leadership experience of at least three years; ADON experience preferred.
Skills
- Proven strong management skills, including delegating responsibility, performance management, conflict management, and leading through others.
- Good financial and management skills.
- Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
- Demonstrates basic computer knowledge with an aptitude to learn company applications, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Physical Requirements
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing, and pulling, with or without the aid of mechanical devices.
- Travel up to 10%.
- Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards.
- Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
