Assistant Director of Nursing

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Aids the Director of Nursing in the functioning of the nursing department.
• Affirms the quality of nursing care delivered and identifies areas for improvement.
• Represents the DON when needed, especially when the DON is unavailable.
• Serves as a nursing clinical resource during on-call hours.
• Makes daily rounds to evaluate patient care, employee progress, nursing practices, and assist personnel with needs.
• Participates in the development, maintenance, and updates of policies and procedures related to nursing department functions.
• Affirms the need for employee performance evaluations and assesses the need for disciplinary actions.
• Attends and participates in employee conferences as requested.
• Ensures all nursing service personnel adhere to their job descriptions.
• Develops, maintains, and updates job descriptions for nursing personnel.
• Fosters positive employer/employee relationships.
• Develops and implements daily staffing schedules to ensure adequate and safe staffing.
• Hires nursing assistants according to facility policies.
• Participates in CQI audits and corrective plans for identified deficiencies.
• Participates in weekly risk meetings to address potential risks and implement new interventions.
• Conducts wound rounds with the interdisciplinary team to assess and develop care plans for residents with wounds.
• Affirms the completion and updating of nursing assessments, care plans, and care cards in a timely manner.
• Compiles end-of-month reports for submission to the DON.
• Develops, directs, and evaluates the orientation program for nursing personnel.
• Performs administrative duties such as completing medical record forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
• Ensures residents and families receive high-quality service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere.
• Liaises with residents, families, visitors, and staff to resolve concerns and issues, prioritizing customer satisfaction.
• Ensures the safety of all residents and staff to prevent accidents, infections, and fires.
• Affirms adherence to legal, safety, health, fire, and sanitation codes.
• Teaches and supervises patient care, demonstrating knowledge of legal aspects of nursing practice.
• Maintains and updates reference materials at nurses' stations and recommends additional written material needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN License in the state of MA.
• Three years of long-term care supervisory experience preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate with various levels of the organization, residents, and their families, visitors, etc.
