Assistant Director of Nurses (ADON)
Position Summary
The Assistant Director “ADON” is responsible for upholding the standards of care established by regulatory and accrediting bodies. The ADON assists with oversight and direction to all direct care nursing staff, ensuring the unit is staffed safely and according to protocol. They provide assistance with decision-making, clinical judgment issues, and medical staff communication. The ADON also provides direct patient care when needed, assumes nursing administrator on-call duties, oversees the nursing staff, participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI), develops the nursing schedule, coordinates nursing care, collaborates on hiring and termination, completes performance evaluations, facilitates admissions, maintains admission criteria, and supports the Utilization and Treatment Team.
Responsibilities
- Uphold standards of care established by regulatory and accrediting bodies
- Assist with oversight and direction to all direct care nursing staff
- Provide assistance with decision-making, clinical judgment issues, and medical staff communication
- Assume nursing administrator on-call duties
- Oversee the nursing staff
- Participate in QAPI process, monitoring, tracking, and analyzing nursing data
- Ensure the development of the nursing schedule in a timely manner
- Collaborate with DON and Human Resources on hiring and termination of employees in the nursing department
- Complete performance evaluations for nursing staff as scheduled
- Facilitate admissions into the facility in a timely manner
- Maintain knowledge of admission criteria and accurately document admission criteria for new admissions
- Collaborate with the Utilization and Treatment Team to communicate identified patient goals, interventions, and assessments
- Act as a resource for all administrative, nursing, and direct care staff in formulating policies, procedures, forms, and processes affecting the nursing department and patient care
- Absorb responsibilities for ensuring survey readiness through regulatory compliance and quality standards of care
- Collaborate on facilities’ projects and program development to oversee the safe, accurate, development, and implementation of patient care
- Participate as a member of the leadership team within the facility
Requirements
- Registered Nurse for at least 5 years with a minimum of 3 years of clinical psychiatric/mental health nursing care past working experience
- MSN oversight
- RN License through the Louisiana state board of nursing
- 3 years of management in mental health nursing
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And/Or Experience
- Education: MSN in Nursing
- License: RN License through the Louisiana state board of nursing
- Experience: 3 years of management in mental health nursing
