Assistant Director of Finance

About the role

The Assistant Director of Finance supports the integrity of financial operations at The Merchant Building, a luxury mixed-use development in Columbus. This role works closely with the Director of Finance and property leadership to ensure clear, accurate, and intentional financial practices.

Responsibilities

• Aid in daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and general ledger activity
• Support the month-end closing process and prepare financial statements
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for hotel operations
• Maintain departmental financial performance and support cost control initiatives
• Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal financial controls
• Participate in audits and financial reviews as required
• Maintain organized financial records and documentation
• Collaborate with operational leaders to support financial planning and reporting
• Support financial systems and reporting tools used at the property
• Adhere to Makeready’s Guiding Principles, policies, and procedures

Qualifications

• Prior experience in hotel accounting or hospitality finance preferred
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Experience with hotel financial systems or property management systems preferred
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Professional communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
