About the role

The Assistant Director of Facilities supports the Director of Facilities in overseeing and managing assigned facility services and personnel to ensure a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for all students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day operations of assigned buildings' systems, including custodial, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Captures preventive maintenance programs in assigned buildings.
  • Responds to work orders and maintenance requests in assigned buildings or ensures their prompt and effective resolution through delegation.
  • Manages and supervises assigned personnel, including regular assignments, attendance, overtime, performance evaluation, and discipline.
  • Aids in the development, implementation, and comprehensive planning of procedures and systems to improve operational efficiency.
  • Provides training and guidance for assigned personnel to ensure high standards of work.
  • Fosters a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Acts as a liaison between principals and other district departments to facilities and maintenance personnel.
  • Inspects all school buildings, grounds, and installations on a regular basis to determine the standard of workmanship, cleanliness, and completion of work.
  • Responds to emergency duty caused by police calls, mechanical breakdowns, snowstorms, flooding, and other acts of nature during the evening and weekends.
  • Assists in the recruitment, employment, assignment, transfer, discipline, promotion, demotion, or dismissal of facility service staff.
  • Organizes and implements an orientation program and ongoing professional development on proper operation and maintenance of school facilities for department staff.
  • Conducts regular facility inspections and risk assessments to identify and address safety hazards.
  • Participates in job-related conferences and/or PASBO-led professional development opportunities to keep informed of the latest trends, developments, and products in the areas of maintenance, repair, and upkeep.
  • Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including, but not limited to, building codes, safety standards, environmental, and accessibility regulations.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree plus 7 years of related supervisory experience; Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of related supervisory experience; or High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus 10 years related supervisory experience required.
  • Experience and/or an education in the architectural and/or buildings & trades field are preferred.
  • Driver's License.
  • Professional certification as determined by the Superintendent or Board of Directors of the Reading School District, PASBO etc.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Google products and ability to create, edit and format appointments, calendars, emails, documents, and spreadsheets.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, using hands to fine, handling, or feeling objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; sitting; lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds such as equipment and chemical containers; hearing conversations in noisy environments; driving all district vehicles; interacting with the public and other staff; meeting deadlines with severe time constraints; working near moving vehicles and equipment; exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, gases/diesel fumes, and sprays; and working in outside weather conditions and occasionally very loud noise levels.
