Job Description

This position serves as one of the Career Advisors for the Levin College of Law. The Assistant Director and Advisor assumes leadership for coordination and delivery of advising for students and graduates of the College of Law. The Assistant Director and Advisor is also responsible for assisting with all aspects of the administration, program planning and implementation of the office of Career and Professional Development for J.D. students, LL.M. students, and graduates of the law school.

  • Helping students develop short-term and long-term career and professional goals
  • Choosing courses and experiential programs so that they may graduate in a timely manner, and maximizing their law school experience
  • Helping students adopt best practices to succeed in law school and the legal profession

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the assistant director’s area of responsibility and three years of experience; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor’s area of responsibility and five years of relevant experience.
  • Juris Doctor and legal practice experience of at least three years or equivalent knowledge of potential career paths for law students, including knowledge of private and non-profit law firms, judicial clerkships, government practice, and in-house legal positions.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and listening skills, as evidenced by training in education, counseling, or mental health; a record of pro bono work with vulnerable populations; or other professional development training.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to counsel one-on-one, to lead large group programs, and to develop website and printed material for both students and faculty members.
  • A proven track record of creative problem-solving and success working in a team environment.

Expected Salary

$75,000-80,000

Required Qualifications
