Assistant Director of Athletic Communications & Marketing

About the role
The successful candidate will work alongside the Director of Athletic Communications & Marketing to positively promote Capital University Athletics' 23 varsity teams and engage its supporters, fans, student-athletes, and other stakeholders. This role serves as the primary media contact for multiple programs, aids with in-game operations for various sports, and plays a significant part in managing the Capital Athletics streaming partnership with FloSports. The candidate will also assist in maintaining the Capital Athletics brand through creative graphics, videos, social media posts, and other digital assets.
Additionally, this role leads all creative media production and management for Capital Athletics and individual teams, manages the department's student game-day and office staff, and serves as the Campus Advisor for the Pride of the Purple Student Section.
Responsibilities
- Game management and statistics entry
- Writing game recaps, news releases, and feature stories
- Creating and managing website content (athletics.capital.edu)
- Developing digital assets for Capital Athletics and individual sports teams
- Contributing to a strong digital presence through video, social media, and graphic design
- Assisting in the management of student office and game-day staff
- Evening and weekend work as required by event schedule
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in sport management, communications, public relations, or a related field
- Previous work experience in a sports information or athletic communications department is desired
- Proven experience in video streaming, video editing, AP Style writing, graphic design, and/or social media use
- Excellent communication skills
