Assistant Director of Admission - Texas-based Regional

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish annual enrollment goals and recruitment priorities for Texas and Southern Louisiana in collaboration with admission leadership.
  • Analyze territory performance, demographic trends, competitor activity, and market opportunities to inform recruitment and enrollment strategies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with high school counselors, college counselors, independent educational consultants, community-based organizations, alumni, parents, and other key influencers throughout assigned markets.
  • Design and implement a year-round engagement strategy that includes school visits, college fairs, counselor programs, student and family events, alumni-supported activities, virtual programming, and admitted student yield initiatives.
  • Manage a territory budget and allocate recruitment resources strategically to maximize enrollment outcomes and return on investment.
  • Effectively use the admission office computer programs and databases.
  • Provide regular territory analysis and market intelligence to admission leadership, including recommendations regarding recruitment travel, communication strategies, scholarship investments, and emerging opportunities.
  • Read and evaluate applications from Texas and other assigned markets.
  • Participate fully in holistic admission review and committee deliberations. Provide context and insight regarding regional educational trends and applicant competitiveness.
  • Counsel students and families through the admission, financial aid, and enrollment process while articulating the value of a Rhodes education and helping students determine institutional fit.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, athletics, alumni relations, financial aid, and other campus partners to support recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts involving Texas and Southern Louisiana students.
  • Serve as Rhodes College's chief representative in assigned markets, strengthening the institution's visibility, reputation, and relationships among students, families, counselors, and educational organizations.
  • Assist the Vice President for Enrollment/Dean of Admission and/or Director of Admission with other miscellaneous projects as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably from a liberal arts institution.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
  • One year of admission experience or admission-related work in a liberal arts institution is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Candidates must be able to understand and articulate the benefits of a liberal arts education in a residential setting.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, over the phone, via email and in person.
  • Must exhibit professionalism and diplomacy in working effectively with diverse constituencies and demonstrate self-confidence and poise.
  • Must be comfortable working with customer relationship management software and all forms of social media.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills required.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-directed while working in a remote environment.
  • This position requires extensive travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience recruiting in Texas.
  • Existing counselor and educational networks in Texas.
  • Experience with Slate.
  • Professional and/or educational experience at a liberal arts institution.
  • Experience at a selective college or university.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a remote environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment such as a computer and keyboard.
  • Must have the ability to walk and sit for extended periods; talk and hear, both in person, by telephone, and virtually through computer speakers.
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, and lift (potential recruitment materials) up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequent travel by car and plane; ability to transport recruitment materials; occasional evening and weekend work; prolonged periods of computer and virtual meeting use.
  • Visual acuity is required on a frequent basis to read, and review print and electronic documents, and drive.
