About the role
You will support the Director of Accounting in overseeing the Company’s internal and external financial reporting activities, managing various corporate accounting functions, coordinating month-end and year-end closing processes, executing impairment testing, managing the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams, reviewing equity accounting, establishing internal controls, and serving as a key point of contact for various audits.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review company financial reports including SEC filings, ensuring accuracy and clarity; maintain proper documentation and supporting workpapers.
- Provide management with timely review of company financial results, manage internal and external financial reporting, including reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Carefully coordinate month-end and year-end closing process with all accounting groups, reviewing equity pick and elimination/consolidation entries.
- Execute quarterly impairment testing for buildings, land, joint ventures, and predevelopment, working closely with the SVP of Investments and Finance Manager.
- Manage the Accounts Receivable team, preparing the monthly AR Watchlist, assessing customer creditworthiness, assisting in the A/R close process, preparing quarterly and ad-hoc executive materials, and collaborating with the legal department on customer bankruptcies.
- Manage the Accounts Payable team, driving ongoing process improvements, maintaining relationships with Nexus contacts, overseeing annual 1099 process, and overseeing annual vendor cleanup projects.
- Review information related to the Company’s equity accounting, including the quarterly equity roll forward, restricted stock grants and vestings, share/unit count tracking, ATM issuances, and dividend payments.
- Establish and maintain sound internal controls and policies and procedures in the corporate accounting and financial reporting areas with specific emphasis on Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
- Serve as a key point of contact for the Company’s various audits, including consolidated, several joint ventures, insurance, and internal audits of various processes.
- Collaborate with other groups (e.g., Property Accounting, Asset Management, Legal, and Tax) regarding their compliance with GAAP and their communication of relevant information to Corporate Accounting.
- Perform technical accounting research for various issues and transactions that arise and memorialize the accounting conclusion in memo format.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Accounting Director, such as straight line rent review and integrity, strategic tasks related to asset management, forecasting, and/or budgeting, implementation of newly adopted accounting pronouncements, ad hoc accounting analysis and GAAP compliance research related to transactions, and as requested by executive management.

- Management experience, high energy level, and strong work ethic.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related accounting experience required.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements is a must.
- CPA strongly desired.
- Public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in the real estate industry strongly preferred.
