About the role

The assistant director of Multicultural Student Affairs supports the mission of the office through programmatic support and student organization advisement. Reporting to the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs, the assistant director works closely with various departments and student organizations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop resources, programs, and activities for multicultural students.
  • Develop and implement innovative leadership and belonging workshops, dialogues, and training opportunities.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and service offerings.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to 12 student organizations and co-adviser to MSA Crew and Unity Roundtable Consortium.
  • Maintain records, correspondences, and develop a positive mentor relationship with students.
  • Provide guidance and assist in coordinating programming initiatives.
  • Support students experiencing academic and personal difficulties.
  • Coordinate programs and services associated with cultural celebrations.
  • Affirmative action and retention efforts with Beyond the Horizons mentorship program for first-year students.
  • Advise and coordinate monthly events surrounding academic resources, involvement, community, and college success strategies.
  • Facilitate culture of belonging workshops on campus.

  • Assist with large scale office programs such as Horizons pre-orientation program, Senior Mwambo Celebration, MSA Alumni Bash and other initiatives.
  • Co-Advise Office of Multicultural Student Affairs programming Initiatives “Enough” and “The Huddle” by advising the student committee and discovering monthly events that relate to students' experience on campus.
  • Manage departmental social media presence and publications including the Unity newsletter, publications, departmental brochures, and annual report.
  • Manage departmental survey assessment tools and collect monthly utilization data.
  • Assist in supervising student organization and signature program budgets totaling over $320,000.
  • Act as a resource to the University of Miami community on initiatives relating to issues of belonging and multiculturalism.
  • Serve on various advisory boards and University committees.

Education & Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements)

  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressive related experience in Higher Education or related field.
  • Master’s degree in higher education or higher preferred.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of concepts related to college student development, identity development, and intersectional approaches to identity.
  • Experience working with college students in a programmatic and advisory capacity.
  • Experience with developing and implementing goals, learning outcomes and assessment programs.
  • Experience with student training, communication and team building tools desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships on a college campus.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.

Base Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000 commensurate with experience.
