About the role

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. PVCC is one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). The scenic PVCC campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. Classes are also offered at the PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center in Stanardsville (Greene County), the PVCC Jefferson School Center in downtown Charlottesville and at high school sites across the region.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Piedmont Virginia Community College Educational Foundation by maintaining and managing financial accounting for the Foundation.
  • Maintains and manages financial accounting for the Foundation.
  • Ensures accountability to private donors, state, and federal funding agencies.
  • Develops financial reports for monitoring Foundation funds.
  • Ensures cash flow needs are met while safely optimizing potential portfolio growth.
  • Performs monthly reconciliations between Raisers Edge and Financial Edge modules within Blackbaud to ensure accuracy of fund designations and accounting of any and all gifts.
  • Provides required information and responds to questions from the Educational Foundation’s Audit firm.
• Works with the Director of Financial Services to prepare financial reports for all College funds.
  • Prepares quarterly budget to actuals of the Education and General Fund.
  • Prepares monthly reports for Workforce Development.
  • Prepares other reports as required.
• Employs advanced functionality of Microsoft Suite applications (Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint) to present financial data in ways that best communicate it and enhance end-users understanding of College finances.
• Develops control systems to assure policies and procedures for all accounting systems are implemented, documented, and accurate.
• Participates with testing activities when AIS business processes are changed or updated as required to meet additional policy requirements, new functions, and software changes.
• Serves as back-up to the Director of Financial Services as necessary.
• Provides instruction, guidance, and training to all staff.
• Reviews and approves all purchasing transactions.
• Makes sure budgets and expenditures are managed properly.
• Assists with budget preparation for state and local funds.
• Serves as liaison with auditors.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years’ directly relevant experience in a financial management role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
• Direct experience working with automated accounting system process/general ledger transactions.
• Ability to analyze and reconcile financial data and prepare reports and statements.
• Strong organizational and decision-making skills, as evidenced in prior financial management roles.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and the public both verbally and in writing.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, and a proven track record of implementing systems improvements to more effectively and efficiently deliver outcomes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheet software.
• Considerable knowledge and experience providing management and oversight of financial processes and procedures related to multiple functional areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, business partners, and community stakeholders with varying levels of accounting and financial management knowledge to support institutional effectiveness and strategic priorities.
