Assistant Director, Clin Communication Enhancement - Augmentative Comm

About the Role

Full-time position providing clinical patient care, supervising trainees, and managing clinical services within the Augmentative Communication Programs, including outpatient Augmentative Communication, Inpatient Augmentative Communication, Autism Language, and Jay S. Fishman ALS Augmentative Communication Programs. Focus on technology innovation partnerships, clinical innovation, and development opportunities. Propose, design, and participate in research activities in collaboration with the program research coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the department and provide guidance to supervisory staff regarding scheduling, assignments, overtime use, and resolution of technical or administrative problems.
• Provide direction and assistance to subordinate staff while maintaining goals and objectives of continuous quality improvement programs.
• Offer guidance, instruction, and mentoring to subordinates involved in departmental or professional activities such as continuing education, quality improvement, and development of policies, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines.
• Supervise trainees or share responsibilities for such supervision with designated senior staff as appropriate.
• Evaluate and treat patients in the area of clinical expertise.
• Identify and arrange clinical and continuing educational opportunities aligned with the clinical goals of the department.
• Propose, design, and participate in research activities in cooperation with the department director of clinical research.
• Communicate program information to physicians and other professionals regarding clinical care and services.
• Participate in various hospital-wide committees and implement programs of hospital-wide nature.
• Oversee maintenance of department policy and procedure manuals, safety and infection control plans, education, and quality improvement programs in accordance with Joint Commission and department standards.
• Maintain patient care productivity levels for the position.
• Develop and/or implement department quality improvement programs, policy and procedure manuals, attendant clinical practice guidelines, and educational programs under the guidance of the Director.
• Recommend operational and capital budgets.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Ten years of directly related clinical experience in hospital-based outpatient Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA).
• Current Massachusetts state license to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

Pay

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
