About the Role
The Assistant Director/Counselor reports directly to the Director of the Federal TRiO Programs and provides leadership for the Upward Bound Math & Science Program, including managing staff and participants. This is a 12-month contractual position.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all program activities aligned with the program's goals and objectives.
- Establish and oversee educational activities.
- Provide direct leadership for the program.
- Assist in proposal development.
- Coordinate recruitment, identification, selection, and orientation of program participants.
- Complete reports, student appraisals, and monthly budget reconciliations with the accountant.
- Determine the utilization of program funds and manage the budget.
- Evaluate staff performance and collect data for program evaluation.
- Attend regional and national conferences, as well as professional development workshops.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all client contacts.
- Prepare follow-up reports on former participants.
- Assist with project management, including the Annual Performance Report.
- Adhere to Department of Education guidelines.
- Prepare monthly reports detailing accomplishments, problems, and projections.
- Provide leadership for the summer residential camp (June and July).
- Organize weekly activities, identify speakers, and develop itineraries for post-secondary tours.
- Assist with identifying instructors based on grant qualifications.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties assigned by the TRIO Director.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Guidance & Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing the duties and responsibilities listed above.
- Experience working with low-income, first-generation students.
