Job Summary
The Assistant Dietary Manager supports the Dietary Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the dietary department at the Southern Utah Veterans Home. This role ensures the delivery of nutritious, safe, and high-quality meals to residents while maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards and facility policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, organizing, and directing dietary services to meet the nutritional needs of residents.
- Supervise and train dietary staff to ensure efficient and effective meal preparation and service.
- Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation to maintain high standards.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
- Aid in menu planning in collaboration with dietitians and nutritionists, accommodating special dietary needs and preferences.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and storage of food supplies to minimize waste and control costs.
- Maintain accurate records related to dietary operations, including temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and staff training.
- Support the Dietary Manager in administrative duties and act as a point of contact in their absence.
- Promote a positive work environment and foster teamwork among dietary staff.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- An associate’s degree or higher in Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in dietary or food service management, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting, is required.
- Knowledge of dietary regulations, food safety standards, and sanitation practices is essential.
- Strong leadership and communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team is important.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and record-keeping is required.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
Work Environment
This position is based at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, St. George, UT. The role involves working in a kitchen and dining environment, requiring the ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift moderate weights.
