Assistant Deli Manager

About the role

As the Assistant Deli Manager, you will help customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while managing and leading one of the busiest teams in our store. You will assist the Deli Manager in overseeing department operations, ensuring maximum productivity and profit through effective merchandising, ordering, inventory control, and team supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing and merchandising the deli department for maximum productivity and profit
• Handle ordering and inventory controls, ensuring product quality
• Supervise and lead the Deli team, coordinating production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork
• Assist in hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Deli team
• Unload and sort store deliveries, operate and maintain deli equipment
• Ensure execution of all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, and validate team compliance
• Lead a team to deliver the finest quality of product, highest level of service, and exceptional customer experience
• Assist customers with special orders, answer phones, and maintain a positive, outgoing, and friendly demeanor
• Analyze personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals
• Maintain Food Safety certification and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations for food safety, weights, measures, store safety, employee safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
• Perform physical tasks including lifting and carrying product up to 70 lbs., standing for extended periods, and operating slicing, wrapping, and cooking equipment

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age with a preferred 2 years of supervisory experience and strong knowledge of deli or related food service
• Dependable and reliable with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to take and give direction in a team environment
• Outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and ability to interact with customers
• Proven leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff
• Strong focus on detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong organization and planning skills; able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
• Ability to lift and carry product up to 70 lbs. from 4” to 60” for distances up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance for up to 4 hours
• Ability to stand for up to 4 hours continuously, totaling 8 hours per shift
• Food Safety certification required
