About the role

The Assistant Dean, Pharmacy will oversee the operation and development of metrics for the Student Services division of the Dean’s Office of the College of Pharmacy, including recruitment, academic advising, institutional research, and accreditation support.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee recruitment and advising for undergraduate and professional students, including transfer, readmission, and graduation processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve student academic issues such as scholastic standing, transfer evaluations, and graduation requirements.
  • Provide institutional research services to College administrators using e-campus queries and related tools.
  • Deliver e-campus training and support to faculty and staff as needed.
  • Teach one course per academic year as assigned.

Recruitment & Advising

  • Market and recruit for undergraduate and professional programs through events such as transfer fairs, open houses, orientations, and special programs (“Welcome Days”).
  • Participate in enroll-a-thons and meet with prospective students, families, and admitted students.
  • Oversee admission processes from University Admission and PharmCAS.
  • Establish and communicate faculty and professional advisor assignments.
  • Coordinate academic advising for students and collaborate with support services (Counseling Center, Career Services, Disability Services).
  • Keep faculty and administrators informed about new legislation affecting students.

Academic Records & Compliance

  • Manage and maintain the degree audit system to reflect current degree requirements across all programs.
  • Run and review student audits each semester to ensure retention requirements are met.
  • Identify and notify students in academic jeopardy at the end of each semester.
  • Participate in Academic Standing processes and communicate probationary and dismissal status to students.
  • Meet with faculty to resolve student grievances.
  • Manage and update PeopleSoft for academic and student services, including degree progress audits, curriculum modifications, transfer credit distribution, and enrollment functions.
  • Review graduation applications, determine outstanding requirements, and communicate degree completion status.
  • Certify completion of degrees and communicate outstanding requirements to students.
  • Coordinate with Enrollment Services to certify NCAA academic progress for student-athletes.

Program Support & Accreditation

  • Coordinate and participate in teaching URI 101 for the College of Pharmacy.
  • Support accreditation self-studies for the College of Pharmacy, including data analyses on progression statistics, correlation of entering credentials with performance, and rubric development for admission interview assessment.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Career and Experiential Education to provide career and major guidance to students.

Leadership & Institutional Engagement

  • Represent the College on University and College committees (e.g., Admissions Committee, Enrollment Services Advisory Committee).
  • Provide direction to the Pharmacy Living and Learning Community (LLC), including student leader selection and move-in weekend participation.
  • Engage with campus constituencies (HRL, Dean of Students Office) to support student success initiatives.
  • Collect and maintain accessible data on enrollment, LLC populations, persistence rates, and related metrics.
  • Coordinate and convey information about academic support resources through URI 101 and throughout the first academic year.
  • Attend conferences and workshops to stay current on student progression and assessment topics.
  • Participate in College and University projects supporting student academic success.
  • Provide and analyze data at the direction of the Dean as needed.

Qualifications

  • Required: Master’s degree.
  • Required: Minimum of five years of experience working with students in higher education or comparable experience in a secondary school environment.
  • Required: Demonstrated experience or training in academic advising or career counseling.
  • Required: Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Required: Proficiency in written communication.
  • Required: Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Required: Ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in adult education, student personnel in higher education, counseling, or comparable program.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of degree and licensing requirements for pharmacy.
  • Preferred: Experience with online information and presentation technology and student records systems.
