About the Role

The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is a Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer, with nearly 1,500 veterans and actively serving military members employed across the department. This position works in the Health Care Clinic, coordinating the oversight, inventory, and ordering of all medications, both prescription and over-the-counter. The role involves ordering, distributing, and delivering medications from the Vendor Pharmacy to the facility’s Health Care clinic and then to prisoners. The position also serves as the liaison with the pharmacy, contacting licensed pharmacists to clarify prescription orders or address medication questions as needed.

This is a drug and alcohol test position, working under the supervision of the Health Unit Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate oversight, inventory, and ordering of all medications (prescription and over-the-counter).
  • Order, distribute, and deliver medications from the Vendor Pharmacy to the facility’s Health Care clinic and to prisoners.
  • Serve as the liaison with the pharmacy, contacting licensed pharmacists to clarify prescription orders or address medication-related questions.

Requirements

  • Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
  • One year of experience assisting in a pharmacy.

Alternate Education and Experience

  • Possession of an associate’s degree in pharmacy technology or completion of a one-year pharmacy certificate program may substitute for the experience requirement.

Additional Information

  • Employment in the state classified service requires a high degree of loyalty and imposes ethical standards to ensure the integrity of state government. Employees must report any possible conflict of interest.
  • New hires and returning employees (after more than two years away) will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), consisting of 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on offender contact and job classification, plus additional online training.
  • The Department of Corrections may screen out applicants convicted of a felony under Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment until satisfactory completion of any sentence, including parole or probation.
