About the Role
The Assistant Dean is responsible for the site supervision, development, planning, coordination, organization, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing program activities. This role assists the Dean with clinical site management and program compliance while serving as a student advocate and liaison between the community and the college.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, manage, update, and evaluate all aspects of the RN program, including budget, faculty and staff, clinical site liaison, curriculum development, and program compliance with Board rules and regulations.
- Collaborate with the Campus Director and operational teams to manage student intake, progression, and campus-wide compliance with program expectations.
- Partner with operations leadership to create staffing models and faculty schedules that maximize instructional efficiency and resource utilization.
- Prepare data and written materials for state and Board requirements, including reports, proposals, self-studies, surveys, and site visits.
- Ensure all student and faculty records are initiated and maintained; work with Human Resources to document faculty and staff qualifications.
- Develop and implement program policies and procedures, and serve on program committees.
- Oversee the admission process, orientation, and articulation agreements with nearby colleges for course transfers.
- Serve as a liaison between the community and the college, and accept additional duties to meet student and program needs.
- Develop and maintain educational partnerships and contracts with clinical sites.
- Perform or delegate clinical site evaluations, assessing agency capabilities for clinical experiences, risk, safety, and staffing.
- Meet with clinical faculty or agency representatives to confirm student numbers, faculty assignments, clinical rotations, and objectives.
- Complete and submit BRN clinical approval forms prior to initiating clinical rotations.
- Ensure evaluations by students, clinical site representatives, and faculty are completed and summarized for the Dean, Chief Academic Officer, and Advisory Committee.
- Maintain minutes of inter-agency meetings.
- Participate in nursing faculty recruitment, hiring, orientation, and ensure regular faculty meetings with adequate records.
- Engage in conflict resolution for faculty and students.
- Initiate and maintain community relationships, advocate for programs, and market them effectively.
- Monitor instruction quality and participate in faculty and program review, evaluation, and strategic planning.
- Maintain membership and participate in professional associations.
- Interact with other college entities (e.g., counseling, registration, financial aid) as a representative of nursing interests.
- Provide advising support and degree planning assistance to potential students.
- Ensure students are properly oriented to nursing skills labs and clinical facilities.
- Manage student appeals and grievances per policy.
- Participate in the recruitment and admission of qualified nursing students.
- Advise and provide academic support to nursing students as needed.
- Ensure students complete documentation and meet requirements for graduation and licensing exams.
- Conduct Nursing Advisory Committee meetings.
- Oversee student performance in the program, NCLEX licensing, and job placement rates.
- Maintain a dotted-line relationship with the Campus Director to support integration with student services, financial aid, and admissions operations.
Requirements
- Current RN license in the state where the campus is located.
- Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, including coursework in nursing, education, or administration.
- Minimum of two years of experience in an administrative position.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs.
- At least two years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care and/or equivalent experience as determined by the Board.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Proficiency in utilizing computer-based resources.
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus.
