About the role

The Charlotte County Attorney's Office seeks a dedicated and skilled professional to serve as an Assistant County Attorney (ACA) or Senior Assistant County Attorney (SACA).

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive legal services to the Board of County Commissioners, County Administrator, and all County departments.
  • Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare clear, well-reasoned legal opinions that guide County operations and policy decisions.
  • Handle a wide variety of complex legal matters within established policies, exercising considerable initiative while delivering sound, effective counsel.
  • Apply knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures to provide sound, strategic legal guidance.
  • Manage complex legal matters using modern office practices and technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related software.
  • Work closely with County leadership and departments to ensure professional and effective support.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice in Florida
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience for ACA applicants
  • At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in city or county local government law for SACA applicants
  • Certified in City, County and Local Government Law

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Preferred: Governmental law experience
