About the role

The City of Chicago Department of Law is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor in the Aviation, Environmental, Regulatory and Contracts Division to provide legal advice regarding Artificial Intelligence governance, risk and compliance, among other responsibilities. This ACC Supervisor will work under the general supervision of the Deputy Corporation Counsel and Chief Assistants Corporation Counsel of the division. The role emphasizes regulatory and advisory work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on issues involving confidentiality, attorney-client privilege, professional conduct obligations, and reputational risk as they relate to AI
  • Provide guidance on the legal, operational, cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory issues associated with AI
  • Formulate advice for City departments on their employees' use of AI in their job functions
  • Work with cybersecurity, technology and risk management resources in other City departments to develop policies on AI
  • Keep abreast of the governmental regulatory environment and industry standards and practices with respect to AI
  • Work in other areas including but not necessarily limited to data sharing, data privacy and security, intellectual property, and regulatory matters
  • Handle or oversee litigation, such as AI-related or cybersecurity litigation, as needed

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership
  • Minimum of 5+ years of legal experience
  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Superior writing, researching and editing skills
  • Exceptional client counseling skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Experience working and advising on AI, governmental regulations, and data privacy
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, privacy and cybersecurity concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, high-volume legal workflows in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of legal experience as a licensed attorney
  • Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree
  • Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705), good standing with your state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission

Pay

$122,148.00 - $169,020.00 (salary is based on a variety of factors including experience and credentials)
