About the role

The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an Assistant Corporation Counsel (“ACC”) Supervisor in its Torts Division. The Torts Division handles personal injury lawsuits in the Circuit Court of Cook County, with a focus on medical malpractice, premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, and police litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an individual docket of cases with high exposure and in-depth discovery and motion practices.
  • Serve as lead counsel at jury trials, presenting and cross-examining medical and other opinion witnesses.
  • Make settlement recommendations and engage in negotiations.
  • Supervise and train line attorneys, including conducting case reviews.

Requirements

  • Substantial medical malpractice litigation experience or significant experience in premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, police litigation.
  • Five (5) years of work experience as a licensed attorney litigating personal injury cases of increasing complexity.
  • Five (5) jury trials, including acting as first chair.
  • Significant legal writing experience and substantive motion practice.
  • Experience negotiating settlements.
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative.
  • The ability to work well with others.
  • Experience supervising, training, or mentoring others in the legal field.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705).
  • Good standing with your state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission.

  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative.
  • The ability to work well with others.

Pay

$122,148.00 - $169,020.00 (salary is based on a variety of factors including experience and credentials)
