Assistant Cook I

About the role

The Assistant Cook prepares and serves quality food including salads, cold sandwiches and pantry items using quality ingredients for residents, guests and employees. They will prepare and bake hot food items under the instruction of a cook, and perform hot and cold food preparation under the guidance of the cook in accordance with standardized recipes. They distribute prepared food to all areas of service accurately and consistently in preparation and presentation, restock items as needed throughout the shift, and clean and maintain their station by practicing good safety, sanitation, and organization skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and bakes hot food items under the instruction of a cook
• Performs hot food preparation under the direct supervision of the Cook in accordance with standardized recipes
• Performs cold food preparation under the guidance of the cook in accordance with standardized recipes
• Distributes prepared food to all areas of service accurately and consistently in preparation and presentation
• Restocks items as needed through out the shift
• Cleans and maintains station by practicing good safety, sanitation and organization skills
• Aid in the cleaning, sanitation and organization of the kitchen and equipment

Requirements

• A full understanding of basic food preparation methods and cooking techniques in quantity food production
• A minimum of 12 months experience in a full-service culinary setting
• A Florida SafeStaff certification or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of date of hire

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent

Skills

• Knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
• Ability to follow standardized recipes
• Attention to detail for accurate food distribution and restocking
• Good organizational and sanitation skills
