Assistant Cook

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Aid in daily food preparation and serving in compliance with Health Department standards.
  • Lead in the absence of the Food Program Manager.
  • Maintain a sanitary environment in all kitchen, dining room, storage, and refrigeration areas.
  • Adhere to proper food storage procedures as per Health Department guidelines.
  • Report maintenance issues to the Maintenance Director.
  • Keep up with necessary reporting and statistics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage volunteers.

Education and/or Experience

  • One to three months of experience in the related field is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work flexibly and manage multiple tasks.
  • Basic computer skills for accessing payroll, timekeeping, and personal data.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgment.

Other Qualifications

  • Pass all applicable background checks.
  • Complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire.
  • Obtain Serve Safe Manager Certification, CPR, and AED.

Physical Requirements

  • Good speaking, hearing, and vision abilities.
  • Excellent manual dexterity.
  • Standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Lifting and moving more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions

  • Kitchen environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Agreement to support The Salvation Army's religious mission.
