Assistant Cook

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Aid in daily food preparation and serving in compliance with health department standards.
  • Lead in the absence of the chef, maintaining a sanitary environment across the kitchen, dining room, storage rooms, and refrigeration units.
  • Maintain proper food storage according to health department guidelines, including handling leftovers.
  • Prepare required statistical and financial reports related to donations.
  • Report necessary maintenance issues to the lead chef and corps officers.
  • Keep accurate records of volunteer hours, meal statistics, and other forms needed for the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen for at least three months.
  • Ability to work flexibly and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic computer skills for accessing payroll, timekeeping, and personal data.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong independent judgment.

Physical Requirements

  • Good speaking, hearing, and vision ability.
  • Excellent manual dexterity.
  • Standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
  • The ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions

  • Kitchen environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Agreement to uphold The Salvation Army's religious mission.
