Assistant Controller (Director)

The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in supporting the AVP Controller in overseeing accounting operations and financial reporting.
Main Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Monthly Close - Oversee the monthly close process, including the monthly close checklist, journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis of key balance sheet accounts. Review and present monthly financial reporting for both management reporting and external reporting purposes, in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company-specific accounting policies and practices. Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide meaningful insights to management.
Technical Accounting & GAAP Compliance - Research, interpret, and apply accounting guidance, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and other relevant guidance. Oversee accounting for customer and vendor contracts and capital projects and related accruals and reserve estimates. Help develop, maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures and process documentation.
Billing & Operational Accounting - Oversee customer billing operations to prepare and issue monthly customer invoices. Partner with Operations and other support teams to resolve billing disputes, credits and adjustments as needed. Oversee complex contract accounting and asset accounting processes typical in communications services and construction-related businesses. Partner with Sales, Operations, and Legal to ensure proper accounting treatment of customer and vendor agreements and pricing structures. Monitor accounts receivable, collections trends, and revenue-related working capital metrics.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement - Assist in designing, implementing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity. Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting processes, improve efficiency and data quality and enhance reporting. Partner cross-functionally to support ERP enhancements, system integrations, and automation initiatives.
Team Leadership & Collaboration - Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, promoting accountability and continuous improvement. Act as a key backup to the Controller and assume expanded leadership responsibilities as needed. Partner cross-functionally with Operations and FP&A to support business objectives.

Main Requirements
Active CPA license required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s degree preferred).
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or private industry.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
Experience in a private equity–backed or lender-driven environment.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar).
Preferred
Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
Experience in communications, technology, or construction industries.
Experience with cash management and treasury-related processes (cash controls, banking platforms, and payment controls).

Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
