About the role
We are recruiting an Assistant Controller for a growing mission-driven organization in the Raleigh area. Reporting to the Controller, this individual will play a key role in the monthly close process, financial statement preparation, audit coordination, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing daily accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and fixed assets.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports in accordance with GAAP.
- Support the annual financial statement audit and assist with regulatory reporting and compliance activities.
- Aid in accounting for grants, restricted funding, reimbursement programs, and other regulated revenue sources.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while helping establish efficient workflows and best practices.
- Partner with finance and operational leaders to improve reporting, strengthen internal controls, and enhance accounting processes.
- Aid in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.
- Participate in system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and special projects that improve operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within healthcare, nonprofit, physician practice, or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, audit preparation, healthcare reimbursement, and grant or fund accounting.
