Job Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team. This manager-level position assists the Controller in directing the Company’s accounting and finance functions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Aid the Controller in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process
- Prepare and/or review journal entries, complex account reconciliations, and reporting schedules
- Support the Controller in the preparation, review, and timely issuance of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Contribute to improvements in close timelines and reporting efficiency
- Monitor, communicate, and resolve open accounting issues and all accounting-related operational issues
- Review preparation of quarterly and annual sales/use tax returns
- Absorb responsibilities for preparing for external and internal audits; coordinate supporting schedules and documentation
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, corporate and internal policies and internal controls
- Identify opportunities to leverage data analytics and technology to improve decision-making and operational efficiency
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff by setting goals, managing performance and providing ongoing training and support
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university
- 6+ years’ progressive accounting experience
- Prior supervisory experience with ability to manage, mentor, and support accounting staff
- Strong understanding of U.S GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Active or inactive CPA preferred, but not required
- Experience in construction accounting is preferred but not required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and experience with corporate ERP/accounting systems and COINS software familiarity are a plus
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Excel (advanced level)
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
